If you hadn't done the internship semester in Germany during your year, what would you have missed?
Had I not completed the internship semester, I would have missed the opportunity to gain direct practical experience in my field of expertise. The internship not only enabled me to apply the theoretical knowledge I had acquired at GJU, but also gave me a deeper understanding of the practical aspects of my job. It also helped me develop professional skills such as problem solving, time management, and effective communication, which I now use on a daily basis in my current position.
What did you learn during your internship?
During my internship at KERN AG, I learned a great deal about working in an international, professional environment. It was a valuable opportunity to observe how a company in Germany worked and to be part of the work of a country known for its precision and high standards in the economy. I've gained practical skills and improved my soft skills, such as teamwork and adaptability. The experience has helped me develop a more critical approach to problem solving and a stronger work ethic.
How did the GJU and the year in Germany influence your life today?
The GJU and my year in Germany have had a significant impact on both my personal and professional development. In my bachelor's degree in German & English for Business and Communication, the GJU offered me a unique academic experience that combined theoretical knowledge with practical skills. During the year in Germany, I familiarized myself with a different culture and a different working environment. Life and students in Germany helped me to become more independent, adaptable and open-minded. I also mastered the German language, which is invaluable in my professional life. Overall, the experience has broadened my horizons and given me a global perspective that has had a positive impact on my career choices and ambitions.
Do you have any tips for companies or GJU students?
I would advise GJU students to make the most of their time in Germany by completing internships, making contacts and, above all, making a variety of their free time beyond their studies and internships. Internships are a fantastic way to combine academic learning with real-world applications. In addition, immersing yourself in local culture and language will not only enrich their experiences, but also increase their competitiveness in the global job market.
I would recommend that companies create an inclusive environment where interns can learn and make a meaningful contribution. Interns bring new perspectives, and companies benefit from their enthusiasm and unique ideas. It is important to provide structured support so that interns can make the most of their learning opportunities.
