Practice, Technology & Industry

The Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) recently welcomed the Jordanian Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. The Centre’s Director, Dr Mutaz Ryalat, presented the Centre’s research activities and vision. The Centre promotes applied research to support national manufacturing and service sectors.

The focus is on practice-oriented research, new technologies and collaboration with industry. Dr Ryalat emphasised the importance of aligning scientific research with practical solutions to real-world challenges. In this way, he said, it is possible to contribute to economic development and strengthen the competitiveness of industrial sectors.

Particular emphasis was placed on the Smart Factory Lab. It brings together key technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. These include intelligent systems, automation, IIoT and industrial cybersecurity. The laboratory is intended to contribute to Jordan’s competitiveness and industrial development.

The visit highlighted the importance of partnerships between universities and businesses, such as the collaboration in the food industry with the Al-Kasih Group and various technical universities.

In addition, Ali Fayoumi, a GJU student, presented an outstanding student project on the early detection of plant diseases using drones and artificial intelligence. In doing so, he highlighted the centre’s practical approach to applying state-of-the-art technologies in socially relevant sectors such as agriculture.

The Crown Prince’s visit recognises the GJU’s ongoing commitment to innovation, applied research and the development of advanced solutions that serve society and the economy. This also highlights the close cooperation between the GJU and the GJU Project Office at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. This is where the German dimension of the GJU is coordinated and the compulsory ‘German Year’ is supported. During the German Year, GJU students are specifically connected with industry and universities.
