Our team trip to Jordan took place from 09. — 16.11.2024. This year is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the German Jordanian University (GJU).

A special moment: The King's visit

The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the visit of the Jordanian King Abdullah II to the ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the GJU. As part of the ceremony, the President of the GJU, Ala'aldeen Al Halhouli, and the Rector of Magdeburg-Stendal University, Manuela Schwartz, jointly presented the achievements of the university, its graduates and their visions of the future. During the ceremony, His Majesty awarded the Silver Anniversary Medal to Andreas Geiger, co-responsible for setting up the GJU and former project manager of the project office in Magdeburg. His commitment to cooperation between GJU and Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences as well as between Germany and Jordan receives another well-deserved recognition with this recognition.

The trip was not only an anniversary experience, but also an opportunity to strengthen the partnership between the two nations. This gave us the opportunity to get to know the employees and processes at GJU.

In addition to the appointments, there was also a cultural highlight at the end of the trip. A visit to the Roman city of Jerash in northern Jordan marked the end of our exciting team trip. Originally founded by the Greeks, the city experienced its boom under the Romans. With the end of Roman rule, the importance of Gerasa, the original name, declined again, but the unique architectural monuments were preserved. Jerash is considered one of the largest and best preserved sites of Greek and Roman architecture outside Italy.

The trip illustrated how education, cooperation and intercultural exchange are the basis for a successful future.
