LEOMA GmbH offers students of the German Jordanian University a wide range of opportunities to gain practical experience and further develop their professional skills.
The company is an independent engineering and consulting firm specializing in environmental engineering, sustainability, permitting management, and plant and machinery safety. Combining scientific expertise, many years of practical experience, and an international perspective, LEOMA supports international project partners from the initial idea and planning stages through to the successful implementation of complex technical and regulatory requirements. The company is certified in various fields and has recognized experts and auditors, including in the areas of environmental protection, occupational health and safety, and energy management.
The company was founded in 1999 by two PhD chemists, Dr. Stephan Höser and Dr. Christian Kaßner, who studied together. Its headquarters are located in Mülheim an der Ruhr, with additional offices in Hattingen and Heilbad Heiligenstadt.
Fields of Work and Entry Opportunities for GJU Students
LEOMA’s clients include companies from the chemical industry, mechanical and plant engineering, metal and surface technology, as well as the energy and waste management sectors. Projects in the aerospace industry are also part of the company’s day-to-day work. In addition, LEOMA supports public institutions and research organizations with technically demanding projects. A particular focus is placed on sustainability, life cycle assessment, and the integration of these approaches into management systems.
Students work on real-world projects and gain insights into different industries, allowing them to apply their knowledge directly in practice.
LEOMA offers GJU students exciting opportunities to gain practical experience. The company is particularly interested in engineering students with a focus on environmental protection, sustainability, or machinery safety. Internships as well as bachelor’s and master’s theses are available particularly in the areas of environmental protection, sustainability, and life cycle assessment.
As LEOMA works on many international projects, English language skills are helpful. At the same time, the company welcomes students who would like to further improve their German skills in their daily work.
A Small Company with a Family-Like Atmosphere
Although LEOMA operates internationally, its corporate culture is described as personal and family-oriented. With around 30 employees, LEOMA is a relatively small company with flat hierarchies that places great importance on personal collaboration. Initiative and teamwork are highly valued. In a conversation with Dr. Kaßner, it becomes clear that in a small team, individual personality and commitment are particularly important. At the same time, openness and respectful interaction play an important role.
Connection to GJU and Looking Ahead
Since 2017, Dr. Christian Kaßner has been a lecturer at our partner university in Nordhausen, where he teaches environmental law, environmental chemistry, and technical water protection. This collaboration also led to initial contacts with the German Jordanian University (GJU). Through his lectures in 2024, he remembers the motivated GJU students who successfully completed his courses.
LEOMA plans to further expand its international projects in the coming years, particularly in the MENA region. The company therefore sees great potential in GJU students.
“For our company, it is particularly interesting that GJU serves as an academic bridge between Jordan and Germany and, among other things, promotes the international profile of its students by providing them with German language skills,” says founder and lecturer Dr. Kaßner.
Why Applying Is Worthwhile
In addition to professional knowledge, LEOMA places particular emphasis on the personality of applicants. The company is looking for students who are committed, think critically, take responsibility, and enjoy developing practical solutions to real technical and regulatory challenges. Students interested in sustainability, technical environmental protection, or industrial safety will find a wide range of tasks at LEOMA, along with opportunities for professional and personal development.
